I think it's great. I would like to suggest a potential change to the candidacy, voting, and transition periods, which was something I've been thinking about during my last term as Ops.

I believe that the terms being pushed back by 3 weeks to a month could be helpful to ensuring that we have one 'Global Event' per term. Currently, the August-November term has two, while the November-February term has none, as does the May-August.

Totally allowable, so long as you're 5 levels total!
Quote from: Kal on August 10, 2023, 12:28:36 PMCan we write our characters out on paper or should we use DnD beyond?
You can do either! We're probably gonna be using roll20 or the like for gameplay, so just so long as you send me a copy of your sheet it's all good!

But question, are we making the character in a session 0 or do we make them beforehand? If so, do we just use vanilla classes and races or? :P
I was figuring that folks could start some characters beforehand, but I'd love to do either a session 0 or some one-on-one's to help make sure everyone is happy with their character and backstory!

Also! For that! All Official Races and Classes are cool, you can bring homebrew ideas to me if you'd like though, and we're all gonna be starting at lvl 5!

Hey folkens! I've been mulling over this for a bit, but I figured now is as good a time as any!

I'm hoping to start up a DnD campaign in the next few weeks that I'd DM and I was looking for some players! I'm thinking around 4 or 5 would be ideal but I am happy to stretch or squash that number! If possible I'd like to use VC, though in a channel only visible to the players. If folks are interested they can feel free to lmk in the thread or dm me, as well as to ask questions! This would be a 5e campaign, played through virtual tabletop!

I also figured I'll put a little blurb to sell the vibe!

The campaign would take place in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world approximately 15 years after a major extinction event. Over the course of a year, a black shroud swept over the continent, wiping out every sentient being that came into contact with it. Those few that survived did so only through luck or extreme measures, invariably sacrificing some major part of themselves.

As the cloud closed on the final few settlements, hundreds of thousands of refugees fled to one of the last remaining cities. Alinore, once a minor fishing port, swelled at its seams as the last people on the continent sought shelter in its walls. The leadership of the city conscripted every magic-user they could in service to the defense of the city. They were to build a barrier that would hold against the desolation, treated as heroes and lauded for every contribution. One by one, they were linked to the barrier, the defenses leeching their intrinsic powers or their knowledge in service to the salvation of Alinore. For weeks and months they worked, doing everything they could to strengthen a massive ward able to withstand the destructive powers of the dark cloud that had wiped out the continent.

As those few remaining days slipped by, and the darkness on the horizon closed on the city, the air of the city was one of tense anticipation. There was no point in running. All that could be done was to work on the magical protections. And when the dark cloud first came in contact with the wards around the city, and recoiled in a burst of light, the amassed citizens and exhausted mages cheered. They'd done it. They would be safe. Even as more cloudy tendrils struck the dome of light and were rebuffed, the cheers grew louder. The world, or all that was left of it was going to survive a bit longer.

And then at the last moment, the barrier began to fail, dark tendrils seeping through the last hope of the continent. As the shimmering wards began to shatter, one last surge of energy pulsed through the sky, and a massive burst of light forced those watching to avert their eyes. When they looked up again, the dark shroud was gone, along with the clouds, the sun, the moon, everything beyond the barrier, and every single magic-user linked to the barriers. With the sacrifice of their lives, they had planeshifted the city away. They would be safe from the desolation, though the next threat would be their limited food stores. Within a month, the royal family had stepped down, a citizen's council formed to determine how best to keep the city safe in their uncertain future.

One year later, Alinore would return, haggard and grim, its citizens no trace of the desolation that had been wrought. Over the next few years, the city would expand into the nearby land, exploration discouraged by the city council, for fear that any stray settler may lead destruction back to the newly defenseless city. As time went on and adventurers from other settlements that had survived made contact, public opinion would eventually force the council to allow adventuring parties to venture out into the world that remained.

The players would be some of the first explorers to set foot beyond Alinore, finding other settlements that survived and forging bonds as they try to uncover what happened in that final year before the world ended.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

All I'm saying is that you'll probably like the webseries! But yeah, the tone shift was kinda weird with the lens I was going into it with, and the way it just kinda gives the big reveal and then ends deffo left me wanting more.

It ended, as many things do, with a book.

A rather pointy hardback, hurled with unerring accuracy at Daff's head, to be precise. As it bounced off his temple and bounced across his clutching fingers, he recognized it as one of his academic texts on technomancy. It cracked off the cobblestones, the binding snapping and pages shooting out across the ground, formulae and grimoire disc schematics blurring as the pages soaked up water. He glared at the perpetrator of the bibliocide, his expression shifting rapidly to fear as he dodged more parchment projectiles.

"Helene! Take out your anger on me but leave the books alone, for Elhek's sake!" His fingers scrabbled at a soggy copy of Brentch's Devici Infernae et Daemonici, adding it to the rapidly growing pile in his arms. "I'll take it this means we're not having lunch tomorrow after class?" He smiled charmingly back in the directions of the assault, batting his eyes in a sultry manner.

Another textbook beaned him in the forehead, this one regarding the aerodynamics of enchanted mice, sending him toppling back into a puddle. A sturdy woman stepped out of her door, shaking a fist at him in tightly controlled rage. "Yes. No more free lunches for you, Daffyd. Go have it with my sister and her husband instead, if you're so keen for their company over mine. And get these useless paperweights out of my apartment!" A few more books and a technical magazine rocketed out of the abode, before Helene stepped back inside and slammed the door.

"Well. So much for that. Two whole months though, new record." Daff stood shakily, doing his best to avoid soaking the books any further, holding them away from his sodden body. Should probably find somewhere to get these fixed. Maybe the library? They know about books there, plus I think more than a few of these are overdue.

He must have made a rather amusing sight, dripping wet and walking with a brisk pace to the other side of the city, holding an over-piled stack of textbooks out in front of him, as if presenting them to everyone in his way. The ignominy of the situation still didn't prevent him from winking at a few folks as he made his way down the road, whistling a jaunty tune with all the casualness in the world.

A mod that I would suggest is StrawGolem Reborn, which is a fairly light mod that adds a golem that harvests crops for you, which would fit with some of the suggestions for lightweight magic/farming mods that are close to vanilla.

And if folks are interested in more decorative mods, Chisels and Bits allows one create very granularly detailed minecraft structures with microblocks.

Roleplay / AVftS: Stranger in a Strange Land

Gods, that's a huge building.
Cass stared up at a tower that seemed to brush the clouds, occasional windows dotting its otherwise smooth stonework. She stuck out her arm to stop a passing merchant. Well, probably a merchant. Looks rich; nice clothes, well fed, soft hands. Definitely a merchant. "Hey, what's the deal with that tower? The king or someone live there?"

The bemused passerby shook himself free, "The Inverted Spire? The greatest magic school in the whole of Ustendelle? The origin of the most powerful mages in the world?" Her blank look must have given her away as he rolled his eyes and continued on his way. "Tourist."
Mages. Huh. Well, they couldn't have been that good, if she'd never heard of them.

She hadn't slept well in the inn last night. The bed too hard, the room far too cold, and her roommate snored like a rockslide. In fact, the whole town was too cold. Back home, the first of spring would already be sweltering, with vendors selling cool melons and colorful drinks, people clinging to what shade they could find. But that was many years, and many more miles, away. Shaking off thoughts of home, she walked further into the Old District, peering into the windows of the myriad shops that lined the streets. Wonder if there's anybody from home here? This city sure seems large enough to have a few expatriates hanging around.

Bringing her attention back to the task at hand, Cass realized that she had wandered into a different section of the city, the sounds of industry coming from various guild halls on the street. Digging into her shoulder bag, she rifled past a few knives, some jerky, and a forgotten package of candied dates, until she found a crumpled parchment at the bottom. Straightening it out, she squinted at the neat handwriting. "...at Black Bow's, in the Westbridge district. A pub sits..." Looking around, she spotted a sign for the hall in question, just a few buildings down. As she walked to the door, she made eye contact with a young woman sitting at a window, looking out into the street. It would seem Aria is already here then. Gods, I hope there's food.

Oh no need to worry too much on that part, I have built a tower that extends to the surface of the ocean that should be large enough for mine carts to go up and down, and I can expand it further if necessary. Also, thank you so much! Again, if it's too far of a distance, I completely understand.

Hey! I've expanded the biodomes to become large enough to be an attraction in their own right possibly.
If you would be willing to expand the network to the biodomes, I would happily contribute the supplies, as it is a bit of a trip.
The location is X:775 Z:-350, and if that is too far, no worries.
#17
And now it's done!
A couple pictures to get the scale in. The old biodome is in the background, to show you the difference!
#18
Hey I'm back! The biodome is located to the North-West of the community center!
I am currently working on an extension to it as well!

Howdy folks, a quick look at the beginning of my newest project!
All done by hand, with no sponges!

Hey y'all, has anyone played Endless Space/ Endless Space 2, and if so, would you recommend?
I really enjoyed Endless Legend, and saw that ES2 was on sale currently and was wondering if I should pick it up.
