Leeva knows common ^.^ They also speak the traditional language of Trees . . . because they're . . . you know . . . a tree sprite . . .

I'm Brilliant!

Happy Holiday!!!

Happy holidays <3

A follow-up to my question about Leeva: what do they actually look like? I've been imagining a ten centimeter tall sprite but I've just realised that may not be most accurate.
Also, is it problematic that I wrote Ramår into meeting Rizali's party in the night-time?
that is not dead which can eternal lie;
and with strange æons even death may die.

Rea

It's not problematic at all! The other players' characters are currently asleep, I think.

Leeva is basically a mass of branches and roots and leaves that's animated by life energy. They can shapeshift into anything a mass of branches might morph into, like a weird stick statue that moves, basically.

As far as size, they usually come up to about a human adult's knee.

It's probably a good time for me to wake Kaegan up and make some comment about how Rizali's spell did exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to do.

Kaegan exits the tent to see Rizali with a shrubbery and a person who looks lost as hell. Rizali quickly says "this isn't what it looks like, I promise."

So there's a character type that I've always wanted to play, and I don't know if it's a better idea to do it in AVftS or in a new RP. Essentially it's a weird style of mage that just does magic in unconventional ways. I referenced it a little bit with Rizali, who enjoys doing standard spells with strange or imaginative weaves, but that's such a light version of the concept.

Originally I was inspired to do it by "Prequel Adventure", particularly this page of it, in which a specialist of the mysticism branch of magic in Elder Scrolls explains how he sees magic to the main character, a Khajiit named Katia Managan. The quote follows, entirely collapsible for those who don't want to read several paragraphs on it. Summary will follow it so don't read it if you're not interested.

In summary, it says that in understanding that you are constrained by the rules you were originally taught, you can start to see alternate possibilities. It's better to consider logic and natural laws options than... well, laws. The best example I can give of my own writing was a character on The Sinking Lure who was named Zeredah. She was a young girl who was invisible because of a curse she'd been dealing with since she turned 13, but she also had very strangely-manifesting magical powers. For example, she could cross magical barriers because she assumed they'd be easier to open from the other side, or she could stop the rain because she was curious what the sun was thinking about and wanted to ask it. I really enjoyed this character because her approach to things was nonsensical by traditional ideas, but if you took a step back you could see why it worked.

I don't know if it's too silly an idea for this RP or not, but I also don't want to spread our fantasy RP points too thin. Maybe a character in the empire?

Edit: Mm! I just thought of another good example of the type of power I'm talking about. Sans in Undertale. Specifically how he can just warp from one place to another and, while it's referenced in the game itself, it's not utilised to be a game-breaking power. I love that sort of goofiness. Of course, there's a possibility of seeing his extreme power at one point in the game, but you have to do a lot to push him there. Otherwise he just sort of does silly things, and I love that.

Luca

Sure, I love Magilou.

I don't really have any issue with a character that does magic in different ways because their understanding of how it works is just a bit different than everyone else's, that seems pretty sensible to me. I think the idea that this person can do that, has a potentially godlike ability that just happens to not ever be use in game breaking ways, and is invisible all the time is just a few too many "I'm different!" characteristics rolled up into one than I think I could stomach for the time being.

I am interested in doing another collab post on Tuesday after my computer is built and the internet gets here, if you're so inclined.

Emily

Oh for sure, I was just writing the NPCs in the case of Sinking Lure and Zeredah would never be a character that actually had stakes in anything. Most of my TSL characters would be game-breakingly powerful. I just kind of want to play someone who approaches magic in silly ways, because that's my favourite type of mage character.

I'd love to jump into a collab post once I'm home from class!

Emily

As such time has passed, I say we go forward with the collaboration even if nobody else is interested in joining in. I think it's fair to give people maybe until I get home from class tomorrow to express interest in having their characters represented and, should nobody speak up, just do it ourselves then? :P

That would give everyone approximately 18 hours from the time of this post to volunteer to join us in our magnificent brainstorming session.

Emily

And we're back! Welcome everyone to the second edition of A Voice From the Storm. It's been a little bit and not everyone who was participating in the original has made the journey back with us, so I thought I'd just do a reset. If anyone wants to, we can reset the OOC thread as well, but I didn't know if it was necessary at this point.

The world is, for the most part, the same. My idea with this new post is to not set a new plot in motion right away. I'd prefer to have our characters be introduced, then we can spend some time in this pub space deciding what it is we all are interested in writing, and make it work together! That seems a lot more fun to me (and also Riza isn't around to bully everyone into going across the forest with them).

As always with the CalRef style of rp, feel free to make any new observations you like. The world is only as developed as is stated in text, so if you want to mention something that I haven't or develop Coxarif further than it has been in this one post, go for it! Be as imaginative and have as much fun as you like ^-^

Welcome back to AVFtS, Refugi.

Emily

By the way, if anyone is interested in asking for brainstorming help or plotting out collaborative posts, feel free to use this thread! Anyone can post anything here, whether it be extra fun character facts, questions, or planning. I know sometimes the chat is moving quickly, or you can't quite line up with someone else perfectly in terms of time, but that's why we also have foruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuums!

Anyone wanna do a collab post with me :)

I would absolutely be happy to, but I also have no idea what I'm doing with any of my characters, past, present, or future.

Aramantha

I think honestly with Verde, it would make the most sense if somebody came up to me, but if thats in a collab post with someone, lmk ^-^
I LOVE YOU ALL!! DRINK YOUR WAWA AND LIVE IN PEACE!!

Emily

On request, I have put together a summary of the thread so far, including introducing characters with as best a description I can when they come up for the first time. This isn't extremely detailed by any measure, and having just done so myself I recommend reading back through the thread for more information.

Furthermore, I have marked Garhad, played by Aquila, as well as Gem, played by Phoenix, as abandoned. The people associated with these accounts quietly left some time ago and have not shown any indication of returning, so until they do, we will ignore them in the game. If either of them do return, we'll collaborate on a way to reintroduce their characters should that be a thing they want.

I've also marked Cass, played by Mads, and Banner, played by Lotte, as inactive. They will exist in the current state they were in (Cass with the Aria/Iris/Trevon party in the pub, and Banner hanging out offscreen with Garhad) until the players are able to have some more time to make posts. If either player wants to abandon these characters for new ones or needs anything, please let me know :)
